Minneapolis emo-rockers use MySpace to the max

The emo-pop-rock upstarts in Quietdrive might have a Minneapolis zip code, but – thatnks to the everyone’s-toing-it power of MySpace – their following spans both coasts. An extensive friends list and the band’s personal efforts to network with music lovers online produced enthusiastic fans as well as a promotion militia, spreading news of the band before they even play in some cities.
“I’ve always wanted to invest in a band when it was small so when they got big, it’s like the stock wnet up and I get more cool points,” vocalist Kevin Truckenmiller said. “Our fans are dedicated right away and we just try to get them the attention they deserve. We try to get the music they want to hear right away. We can put our latest songs and videos right in front of them within minutes.”
Quietdrive racked up over half a million plays on their MySpace profie, includeing the infectious track “Rise From The Ashes,” sure to be the breakout single from their first full-length album When All That’s Left Is You , due May 30. The debut EP, Fall From The Ceiling, was independently released before catching the attention of Epic. Now the major record label is releasing the upcoming album.
Truckenmiller says the switch simply expands the band’s resources but will not change their indie, DIY approach.
”The attitude is about not relying on anyone else to do the work for you,” he says.
